Welcome to the Black Squirrel Scurry Triathlon!

Join us in 2024 on Saturday, July 27th for the Black Squirrel Scurry Triathlon.

NEW THIS YEAR – Double Tandem (Paddle and Ride together)

PACKET PICK UP: FRIDAY – SMITH Ctr at the MARC 5-8 PM

SATURDAY – PRAIRIE TRAILS PARK 6:30-8:30 AM

This will be our 7th annual event.  The Black Squirrel Scurry is a triathlon that features a 2 mile paddle down the Prairie River, a 17.5 mile bike ride featuring the River Bend Trail out to the countryside of Lincoln County, and a 5k trail run through the Merrill Area Rec Complex and Council Grounds State Park. Races include Relays, divisions for 19 and Under, Tandems, and  Solo Aged divisions for individuals.  Proceeds from this event will be donated to the “Northwoods Veterans Post” and Friends of the River Bend Trail.  Timing is provided by T & H timing Services, LLC.  Registration will open March 1, 2024 at Runsignup.com.

Awards will follow at 1 PM at Cenotaph Park, located across the street from Ballyhoos. So, grab a lunch with your coupon while you wait for awards. For those over age 21, Ballyhoos offers the largest selection of craft beers in Merrill.  Join in on Lobsterfest at Ballyhoos by ordering your freshly flown in lobster to be served at 4:00 or after.  Proceeds benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters.d

  • Neon Ribbon – Reserve your space on bike racks at Stanges (Paddle/bike Transition) and MARC (Bike/Run Transition).  Tie ribbon on to back of seat on bike or bike helmet so race personnel can identify competing bikers

 

Saturday:  Stations and course opens at 6:30.  If you didn’t check in Friday, please do this first at Prairie Trails Park

  • Drop off Kayak/canoe at Prairie Trails Park with equipment (paddle, helmet, PFD, race number) Volunteers will take your paddle, kayak, PFD when you land.  Craft will be readied for pick up)

 

  • Drop off bike, water bottle & biking shoes at Stange’s Park on 209 W  3rd St

 

  • Drop off running shoes at MARC at the rack that you reserved Fri night.

 

  • A yellow school bus will transport you back to the start at Prairie Trails between 6:30-8:15 (Race announcements start at 8:10, Race Starts at 8:30)

 

  • Prepare your craft and take everything with you from START. There are no further shuttles after the start of the race.

 

  • When your race is done, please collect your gear from Stanges and MARC bike racks before awards. Showers are available at the Bierman Aquatic Center (by the bike/run transition) starting at 11 am.    Volunteers will be watching equipment until 1:00.  Volunteers will assist with loading craft on vehicles.

 

  • While waiting for awards, use your 10% coupon at Ballyhoos for a terrific meal, and craft brews on tap, buy raffle tickets, listen to live music! (you might want to bring a lawn chair – seating is limited)

 

  • Awards: 1:00 or 1 hour after last contestant finishes. Cenotaph Park – 301 Grand Ave. (Follow highway back into town, look for triangle shaped park before stop sign).

 

  • Raffle follows after awards. (you’ve been given 1 free raffle ticket. (Further purchases – 1 ticket = $5, 3 for $10, 10 for $20)
